Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBSTN) is threatening to force us out-of-network.
AMG is currently in negotiations with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBSTN) on the terms of a new contract that covers the anesthesia services we provide to our patients. On April 30th, BCBSTN notified us that they intend to terminate our current contract if we do not agree to accept deep cuts in the payment rates they provide for our services.
If we are unable to reach an agreement on a new contract by September 1, 2018, we will be considered out-of-network providers for patients with BCBSTN commercial insurance. This change does not currently impact BCBSTN Medicare or Medicaid related services with AMG.
AMG has been a participating provider with BCBSTN networks for more than 22 years. We are a critical part of BCBSTN’s network – AMG represents 121 physicians and 397 CRNAs that provide anesthesia services to more than 220 operating rooms in 33 facilities throughout Middle Tennessee daily.
We deliver general anesthesia care, as well as cardiac, pediatric, orthopedic, and OB anesthesia through sub-specialty care teams, and we provide 24/7 ICU and Emergency Room availability at the hospitals we serve. Additionally, we employ 41 RNs and other clinicians who provide preadmission screening services which supports cost efficient care delivery to our patients and facility partners.
Our relationship with BCBSTN
Our legacy with BCBSTN and the services we provide to our patients during the past 22 years validates the positive relationship that has existed between AMG and BCBSTN. We have historically supported every product offering that BCBSTN has brought to the market, and we have provided millions in cost savings to our patients and BCBSTN.
In addition, we have shown consistently high patient satisfaction ratings and pursued quality initiatives which have improved outcomes and reduced costs – initiatives which BCBSTN has thus far declined to acknowledge or discuss. We have worked hard to make ourselves an indispensable part of the healthcare delivery system in Middle Tennessee by focusing on quality and efficiency, and we know our hospital and physician partners have come to rely on us for that.
Our patients also count on that every time they go into a delivery room or an operating room at hospitals and surgery centers across the mid-state.
